SEA.AI is all about seeing dangerous obstacles before your vessel collides. After considering and experimenting with an ocean of contender names, the client opted for the clever, but descriptive, SEA.AI, a name inspired by River + Wolf’s exploration of “sea” based names such as SeaSafe, SeaScience, SeaEye, and ClearSea. The homophonic “sea” and “see” encapsulate the arena and function of the company’s detection technologies. The name received additional support with the tagline: “Machine Vision for Safety at Sea”.
Being open to generic top-level domain (gTLD), as Christoph and his team were, can add another layer of meaning. In this case, the use of the gTLD “ai” transformed a highly descriptive name into one that instantly conveyed the company’s function - using artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies to help sailors better “see” obstacles at “sea.
