Subscale needed a new name that expressed its sophisticated, metamorphic manufacturing system of precision parts. At project start, client requested an abstract name, preferably with a German tonality. So, River + Wolf manufactured names that fused German, Latin, and Greek. In round 2, the client shifted directions, wanting only very simple, compound names. The candidate of choice, FormLogic, emerged from River + Wolf’s methodical and comprehensive process, along with our raft of compound names including the word “form”.

At the project’s start, the Subscale team wasn’t quite sure what kind of character or construction held the greatest appeal, though they leaned towards the abstract. As the process went on, however, they removed this original constraint. Their willingness to explore all kinds of names, from the descriptive to the fanciful, combined with their wholehearted participation in our rigorous naming process, led the Subscale team to a name that checked all the boxes.
