LANCK Telecom, a Russian-based company sought a name for their soon-to-launch phone app that allowed users to keep their existing phone number while making international calls. The client preferred a name with no more than two syllables. Yolla suggests “yo”—slang for “hi” or “hey”. It also evokes “ola”, which aurally suggests the international pronunciation of “hello”. Topping it off? “Ola” plays to “olé”, the Spanish way of saying bravo.
